About the composition:

1) Irregular Characters (19:45) 2010

Composed for "Tributo a J. G. Ballard" by the Fundaçao Serralves, Porto, Portugal, using source material reworked from Yasunao Tone's "Solos for Wounded CDs." Tone's highly schizophrenic, dishumanized and entropic material was widely transformed using granular synthesis (drones and filtered structures) and graphical spectrogram editing to create a dynamic framework in which Behrens sets a few special recordings of his own. A carefully constructed narrative is ruptured several times as if holes open to other, even more pathological layers. These short passages reveal voice utterances by groups and individuals (mainly human), reinforcing the idea of actors in a dystopian environment, who in turn are under influences not entirely disclosed to the listener.

The light choreography in the space (originally conceived for the Auditório Serralves) is simple and provides only few coincidences with the much more complex sound - aimed to casting a strong influence on the spectators themselves, who likely become close to the individuals and groups represented in the sound.

2) Cloud/Could (3rd movement) (11:58) 2011

"Cloud/Could" is a work-in-progress, using sound material recorded on 23 passenger flights over three continents. They were made methodically on many of the flights I took between July 2010 and July 2011, with one exception in June 2005. Some of the recordings did not conform to safety regulations as they were done during take-off and landing.

The bulk of these recordings, in terms of quantity, were made with recording devices hidden in check-in bags of different types between closing the bag and the reclaiming it at the destination, as long as batteries and recording memory would last. On almost all occasions, cheap handheld recorders were used.

During the recording period, my focus shifted towards the gap between the popular image and technicalities of passenger flight and the mythological and religious concepts of supernatural beings who descend from or live in the clouds. I am successively filling this gap with stories as well as defining the two fields, turning my prolonged interest and the material I gathered into a palpable work. The history of the work-in-progress is creating constant twists and potentialities.

"Cloud/Could" is the complementary piece to a conceptual radio composition entitled "Crowd" due to be premiered in March 2012.

Shortly after the release of muringas debut album on the renowned Norwegian label “Sofa”, muringa will be touring and giving workshops in Singapore, Malaysia, Vietnam and China.

The tour is also supported buy Mic (Music Information Centre Norway), Fund for Performing Artists, and The Norwegian arts council. Mic cooperates with Vietnamese musicians and conservatories on a regular basis through the Transposition program.

Muringa is a quartet consisting of some of the most active improvising musicians in Norway. Members of the group also have releases on other well renowned labels such as: Jazzland, Creative sources, Either/Oar and Leo records, among others. They have with murmur and other collaborators played concerts Scandinavia, Europa, Usa, Australia and Asia. Lately they have been most active with bands like the Trondheim Jazz orchestra, Mural, Sinepuxent, Ballrogg, Enenen, og Koboku Senjû.

Tetras are an improvising trio based in Zurich, Switzerland. They take a long-form approach to their music, with live sets approaching one hour or more. The gradual structural development of their pieces blurs the sense of time passing, moving through various fields of improvisation which owe as much to rock (This Heat, Can), jazz (Sun Ra, electric-era Miles Davis), minimal music (Steve Reich) or drone (Phil Niblock).

Invited to play at the 2012 NOW now Festival in Sydney, the last date on this tour, Tetras are also playing shows in New Zealand, Malaysia and several other Australian concerts in Melbourne and Canberra.

In January their first release, the double LP “Pareidolia,” will appear on the Chicago Flingco Sound label.

Jason Kahn began playing music in Los Angeles during the early 1980's, initially releasing records on the SST label. During the 1990's he lived in Berlin, playing drums and percussion in many projects of improvised and electronic music. Since 2000 he has been living in Zurich.

Getting his start in the 1980's Amsterdam Ultra scene, Jeroen Visser has worked extensively as sound engineer with The Ex, Tom Cora and many more. He played with The Pale Nudes during the 1990's, and currently tours with ./morFrom/. and Trio Kazanchis, with Ethiopian singer and krar player Mesele Asmamaw.

Swiss bassist Christian Weber is involved in numerous projects, ranging from jazz and free improvisation to contemporary chamber music. He has collaborated with a wide spectrum of musicians, ranging from John Butcher to Otomo Yoshihide.

This tour has been made possible with the support of the Swiss Arts Council, Pro Helvetia.

Kazuhisa Uchihashi was born in Osaka in 1959. He started playing guitar at the age of 12, and played in folk and rock bands in junior high and high school. While a student at Osaka University of Foreign Languages, he learned jazz technique and started playing in clubs and studios. Michael Edward Edgerton | Composer, Voice
(born October 31, 1961 in Racine, Wisconsin) is an American composer, pedagogue and authority on the 'extra-normal' voice produced by extended vocal techniques.

Edgerton received his doctorate in Musical Arts (DMA) in composition from the University of Illinois at Urbana in 1994, the Masters of Music (MM) from Michigan State University in 1987 and the Bachelor of Arts (BA) from the University of Wisconsin–Parkside in 1984. From 1996 to 1999, Michael was a Postdoctoral Fellow with the National Center for Voice and Speech, where he conducted research on voice science for his book, The 21st Century Voice. He has studied composition with William Brooks, Morgan Powell, Jere Hutcheson and August Wegner.

His concert music is focused on systematic explorations of instruments and voices, less so with electronics. In addition to concert music, he previously had interest in bringing music together with other mediums, such as theater, movement and visual art, often in collaboration with artists from these disciplines. Since the mid-90s, his work increasingly leans toward complexity and acoustical exploration, such as the virtuosic Tempo Mental Rap, for which he won the Kompositionspreis der Landeshauptstadt Stuttgart in 2007.

Fung Chern Hwei | Violinist
Born and raised in KL, Fung Chern Hwei has been constantly fed with music from various cultures and styles. After a big crush on the violin sound he started off studying with Lee See Guan, Nora Kim, Teoh Tong Seng, Mayya Musaeva, Stefan Kocsis, and finally Kjell-Arne Jorgensen. Till then, Chern Hwei had graduated from Universiti Putra Malaysia's (UPM) with a bachelor degree in violin performance, and embarked his journey to the States, studying with Daniel Phillips (Orion Quartet) at the Aaron Copland School of Music in New York City. Upon graduating as a Master in Violin Performance, ChernHwei started freelancing as a musician, playing in different ensembles,
contexts, and genres. Today, he can be found touring in USA, Europe, as well as his native Malaysia, spreading his love of music with Sirius Quartet (www.siriusquartet.com), Djinn (www.djinnnyc.com) and the Mahavishnu Project (www.mahavishnuproject.com). Chern Hwei is very thrilled and proud

I am a Melbourne based sound recordist, artist and designer primarily working with environmental sound recordings and found-sonic objects, these materials are then sculpted to produce a hybrid of noise, ambient, music-concrete and drone (electro-acoustic) compositions. My works have a strong
focus on the environmental, atmospheric, spatial, textural and theatrical aspects of sound composition. Having been greatly inspired by the use of sound in film and anime, I draw upon the construction and editing techniques within the soundtrack to produce hyper-real and abstract representations of the spaces and objects I have recorded.

Working in the realms of live-performance, composition, installation & sound design, My recent projects include collaborations with sound artists Darrin Verhagen (Shinjuku Thief) and Nick Van Cuylenburg, theatre productions with director Daniel Schlusser.

Jerk Kerouac is a practitioner of harsh noise hijinks and distortion pedal worship hailing from the stifling, suburban bore-fest known as Kelana Jaya, specialising in the (ab)use of contact microphones and the occasional intoxicant or two.

Reflex Reactions is an improvised duo by Yong Yandsen and Kok Siew Wai. Yandsen plays the saxophones, clarinet and flute. Siew Wai does the vocals. The duo creates improvised musical conversations through attentive listening and interactions with each other.

About the artists:-
Marc Behrens works mainly consist of concrete electronic music, installations, the occasional photograph or video. Recent activities include field recording trips to remote western China and the Amazon rainforest, founding an incorporated company as a social art work, and staging a rite of passage for an investment banker.

Behrens has performed and exhibited extensively across Europe, the Middle East, South Africa, North America, and East Asia, and developed collaborations with Jeremy Bernstein, Ana Carvalho, Bernhard Günter, Nikolaus Heyduck, Francisco López, Paulo Raposo and Achim Wollscheid, among others.

2006–2010 Marc Behrens was a lecturer at the Academy of Fine Arts, Saarbrücken, Germany (HBKSaar), and 2007–2009 at the University of Applied Arts Darmstadt-Dieburg, Germany. He is a member of the Frankfurt Association for Contemporary Music (FGNM), the German Association for Electroacoustic Music (DEGEM), Granular (Lisbon), subscriber to the Electronic Music Foundation (EMF), and a citizen of The Kingdoms of Elgaland~Vargaland. 2003–2007 he was co-director of the Portuguese music label Sirr.

Goh Lee Kwang (family name Goh) is internationally recognized sound & new media artist from Malaysia. He has created sound installations, sonic-visual interactive installations, single channel video, multi-channels video, electro-acoustic improvised music performance, tape music, composition for radio broadcast and soundtrack for theater / dance / independent movie. Goh's works focus on the various possibility of both realistic & abstract, crossing the boundaries of digital & analog, electronic & acoustic, go beyond language, allowing audiences to experience the work directly, and in their own personal way. Most of his installation also operating interactively with the audience/ viewer.

Human vs. nature: “No man is an island” quote John Donne (1572-1631). Indeed, we hold on to each other. Out loud we cried or even abating whispers through our ears, we fight and we survive along with the nature. A bus load of languages have spoken and millions of signals we waved by but never we endured in a single bit of confusion. IFs is an experimental project to expose not only the prominent and the most fundamental and critical region of communication. Performance description:
Beneath the Willow Tree is a ethereal audio/visual project that consists of dreamlike imagery and abstract hand-painted 16mm film combined with vocal and electronically processed sounds, performed live by artist/musician, Jax Deluca. This melancholic performance acts out a symbolic interpretation of the Willow Tree, which represents healing, inner visions, and dreams - a mediation of darkness and light, fabricated with elements of natural and synthetic mediums.

Artist Bio:
Jax Deluca (b. 1982) is an artist who lives in Buffalo, NY. Her artwork takes on various forms, from stark gallery and public installations, to abstract video, film, painting and costumed public performance. She teaches workshops in strategic sound-making and is the Director of Programming at Squeaky Wheel/Buffalo Media Resources.

Formal studies at the Division of Expanded Media at Alfred University culminated in The Aesthetics of Video and Sound, a self-directed major that combines music theory, religious and ethnographic studies, communications and experimental media making. Deriving concepts from the Johari Window model, recent works require audience participation to encourage a heightened sense of self-awareness and seek answers using methods of chance and contemplation. Sound performance work has varied from expressive improvisation to digitally composed, making use of vocal toning, handcrafted instruments, guitar, piano, and found objects ranging in the genres of classical, avant-garde, new folk, free improvisation, and immersive noise. Current projects include immersive drones under the name of Communication Vault and live vocal and electronic sound processing with W ((aa)) ou w, a free improvisational group.

Jax has performed at Big Orbit’s Soundlab, Kitchen Distribution, Nobody’s Art Center, Alfred University, Hallwalls Contemporary Art Center, Rochester Contemporary, Buffalo Arts Studio, A/V Space Rochester, Music is Art Festival, The Ingenuity Festival, Infringement Festival, The Project Lodge (Madison, WI), and many DIY performance spaces across the United States. Her various musical configurations have performed alongside acts such as Jackie O’ Motherfucker, Sir Richard Bishop, Six Organs of Admittance, Elvis Perkins, Steve Baczkowski, Okervill River, Wharton Tier’s Ensemble, Parts and Labor, and Jana Hunter.

She is a strong advocate of independent artists and has been featured in The Buffalo News, Buffalo Spree, Buffalo Rising, Block Club Regional Publication, The Artery, and WBFO 88.7 Buffalo. From 2002-2004, her award-winning college radio show 'Corporate Screws' showcased independent music artists and featured special guest performances that were recorded and distributed in limited edition packages. In 2004, she moved to Buffalo, NY and opened Arte Brutale, an avant-garde music, art and performance space that showcased regional artists and touring musical acts on a shoestring budget. She continues to support the local Buffalo art and music scene and actively curates media arts programming for Squeaky Wheel and Beyond/In Western New York 2010, a regional biennial exhibition in conjunction with The Albright-Knox Art Gallery.

Her work has been exhibited and presented internationally, including CEPA Gallery (2010), The Richmond Center Atrium Gallery at Western Michigan University (2009), ArtSpace Buffalo (2009), Smackmellon (2008), Burchfield-Penney Art Center for the Beyond/In Western NY Biennial (2007), Michigan Womyn’s Music Festival (2006), Visual Studies Workshop Rochester (2006) ,Squeaky Wheel (2005), Division of Expanded Media at Alfred University (2004), The Science and Art International Digital Art Exhibition in Shanghai, China (2003), and in various film festivals in Europe and Asia. She has received a NYFA SOS Award Grant (2008), NYFA MARK program recipient (2008), and held residencies at Squeaky Wheel and The Experimental Television Center.

Renowned frontman of krautrock pioneers CAN and veritable undergound music legend, Damo Suzuki, will perform live in Kuala Lumpur with his latest project, Damo Suzuki's Network.

Damo Suzuki's Network is a project that will bring together Damo Suzuki on voice and a supergroup made up of some of KL’s most exuberant underground musical adventurers including members of The Abang Guard, Ciplak, EMACM, and Furniture – Abdul Aziz, Azmyl Yunor, Bullet, Goh Lee Kwang, Joe Kidd, Ronnie Khoo, and Yong Yandsen.

Watch out for unthrottled aural chaos and no-wave mayhem! Your ears will orgasm! Your soul will ejaculate! Definitely the underground gig of the year!

ABOUT DAMO SUZUKI

Born 16 January 1950, in Japan, Damo Suzuki is a singer best known for fronting the German krautrock group Can. As a teenager, Suzuki spent the late 1960s wandering around Europe, often busking. When Malcolm Mooney left Can after recording their first album Monster Movie, Holger Czukay and Jaki Liebezeit encountered Suzuki singing on a street in Munich, Germany whilst the two were sitting outside at a street café. They invited him to join the group, and he did, performing with them that evening. Suzuki was with Can from 1970 to 1973, recording a number of well-regarded albums such as Tago Mago, Future Days and Ege Bamyasi. Suzuki's first vocal performance with Can was "Don't Turn the Light On, Leave Me Alone" from Soundtracks His freeform, often improvised lyrics, sung in no particular language gelled with Can's rolling, psychedelic sound. After the release of the album Future Days, Suzuki retired from music in 1974. He returned to music in 1983, and currently leads what is known as Damo Suzuki's Network - as he tours, he performs live improvisational music with various local musicians from around the world, thus building up a 'network' of musicians with whom he collaborates. Among the musicians in his live shows have been Michael Karoli and Jaki Liebezeit of Can, Mani Neumeier of Guru Guru, Dustin Donaldson of I Am Spoonbender, Cul De Sac, Passierzettel, The Early Years, The Bees, Do Make Say Think, Broken Social Scene, Airiel, Acid Mothers Temple, The Holy Soul, The Sandells, the Omar Rodriguez-Lopez Quintet,The Skull Defekts, AIDS Wolf, Edmondo Ammendola and Dave Williams of Augie March, Gordon J Watson & Simon Doling of Terminal Cheesecake, Stephen Mcbean from black mountain, The Prestidigitators, Gary Jeff of God, Calamalka, Karl Asa, Hamish Black, tynder and many, many others.

Artist's Bio:
Recipient of the University of Melbourne’s Asialink Performing Arts Residency at CHAI, Sean Taylor is a sound designer and composer working with Instant Cafe Theatre on a number of upcoming performance, installation and recording projects.

Based in Sydney, Australia as a radio producer and multimedia designer, Sean also produces and DJ’s dance music. In 2003, he began working in Brisbane across many settings, ranging from night clubs and radio stations to galleries and street parties.

As producer of the successful global bass music radio show called Forcefed Fistfuls, Sean has pioneered nascent future music in the Australian broadcast industry and continues to represent cutting edge bass music culture from around the globe.

Artist's Bio:
Brian O'Reilly works in the fields of painting, drawing, collage, moving images/live cinema, electronic/noise music, and he is a contrabassist focusing on uncovering inaudible textures and acoustic micro-gestures thru the integration of electronic treatments and extended playing techniques. Currently he is a lecturer at LASALLE College of the Arts School of Contemporary Music in Singapore & regularly performs solo, with the ensemble shroud lines, and in the electro-acoustic improvising groups Iron Egg & Black Zenith.

He has worked on projects with Eliane Radigue, Luc Ferrari, Curtis Roads, Zbigniew Karkowski, Matmos, Maryanne Amacher, William Basinski, Fe-Mail, Otomo Yoshihide, Stefanie L. Ku, Zeitkratzer, Christian Marclay, Yasunao Tone, Stephen T. Pope, Nicholas Isherwood, Darren Moore, Tim O'Dwyer, Francisco Lopez, Vladimir Todorovic, Andreas Schlegel, Chandrasekhar Ramakrishnan, Kasper T. Toeplitz, Garth Knox, Steina & Woody Vasulka amongst others...

5th March, Vjing+Music
the vjing element all come from the local video shooting which we will make it on second day arrival, on third day edit the material, music part will use part of local filed and sampling from local radio, tv or even cds mix with my sounds & beats, so can be danceable some times, can be 60min or even longer to 90min.

6th March, Modern Dance+Live Music+Video & Sound Installation
there are 2 video projection on beside, dancer (Alessandro) will dance on the black wooden board, i play the live set improvise with dancer for 45 min, this set music will be experience avantgarde stuff.

Satu Hari (One Day) - An Audio Visual Timeline Expedition is a video art documentary about an ordinary routine life in Malaysia by Efozy. “Satu Hari” means “One Day”, it represent a future story for example “Satu hari nanti…” (One day it will..) This documentary will focus on urban lifestyle merging with traditional by capturing Malaysian activities from day until night which also represent the second meaning of the word “Dalam masa Satu Hari” (Only in one day). The documentary will highlight in culture, history, art, architecture and people.

“Satu Hari” is a special documentary which is focus on synchronization of audio visual in every footages, the documentary highlight on moment and environment of people and places. The video will be screening at KLPac, 26th February 2010. Along with the screening and live visual by Efozy, there will be a Band performance by Monoloque, KLPHQ and Sforzando!
